Just a short drive from your doorstep lies Elephant Rocks Golf Course, an 18‑hole public championship layout set at roughly 7,000 feet amid towering Ponderosa pines and under the watch of Bill Williams Mountain. Redesigned in the 1990s by Gary Panks and expanded to 18 holes by 2000, it blends challenge with scenic elevation and a refreshing forested feel—ideal for a morning tee time before heading back to relax at the house. Bring your clubs (or rent there), and enjoy a walkable, thoughtfully designed course with bent‑grass greens, elevation changes, and a clubhouse that nods to its history. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or just looking for a fun outing, it’s a great way to experience Williams’s pine‑framed charm. (arizonagolfer.com)
After your round—or even beforehand—head into downtown Williams for a real local treat: Pine Country Restaurant. This beloved American diner and gift shop serves homestyle hearty breakfasts, comfort‑food lunches and dinners, and over 35 varieties of fresh‑baked pies made daily. Think banana chocolate peanut butter, blueberry apple peach, pineapple coconut—and yes, sugar‑free options too. (arizonahighways.com)
Open every day from early morning until 9 p.m., Pine Country is the kind of place where you might start your visit with pie and a strong coffee, and end it with a warm meal and another slice. It’s a nostalgic stop that feels as much a part of Williams as Route 66 itself. (arizonahighways.com)
Picture this: tee off in the crisp morning air, surrounded by pines; return to the house for a relaxed shower or coffee on the patio; then stroll into downtown for pie and diner classics at Pine Country. Back at the house, unwind in the game room, fire up the BBQ, or gather around the firepit under the stars.
This pairing—pine‑lined fairways and mile‑high pie—is a perfect reflection of Williams’s character: nostalgic, grounded in nature, with a dash of sweet surprise.
Let this be your go‑to plan for a morning that feels both restful and distinctly Williams. Whether you’re chasing birdies or slices, you’ll walk away full—in more ways than one.
